Kate (Counsellor in Training)

Kate is currently undertaking her Level 4 Diploma in counselling at Richmond and Hillcroft Adult Community College and is a BACP student member. Using the integrative approach enables her to adapt to the needs of the client in a safe, non-judgemental space to explore historical and present trauma.

With 40 years of experience in nursing, including work with families and young people in the community setting, Kate is familiar with supporting individuals from a broad range of backgrounds who have suffered trauma. Her work in health visiting and school nursing enabled her to support those who were going through abuse experiences and those who were overcoming the effects of abuse. This experience has given her an appreciation of how family and statutory units work with abuse and how survivors often need additional help to overcome the effects of the experience.

In recent years she has worked in a safeguarding context with her local church and HERA charity for trafficked women. She has volunteered with the charity, Dose of Nature to share the healing aspects of nature with those who are feeling low and is an advocate of making a daily appointment with nature to reflect and calm the mind.

Kate appreciates the opportunity to work in a safe space with those who have endured abusive experiences, helping them to work through trauma to help them to move on with their lives. Her experiences in nursing enable her to appreciate the developmental impact that the abuse may have on the child and consequent effects on adult life. Her open and accepting approach aims to help the survivor to explore undiscovered blocks in understanding on the road to recovery and resolution.
