Kelly (Integrative Counsellor)

Kelly has always been interested in working with people, interested in their stories, and curious about how people operate below the surface. She is been especially interested about those aspects of our humanity that are heavier, the parts of people that are more hidden, the parts that struggle.

This might have stemmed from Kelly’s own struggle with a phobia as a child, which necessitated her needing to know what was going on under her surface, what was causing her to suffer.

This has driven Kelly through training in performing arts; fascinated in how stories are told in drama and expressed through dance. It led her to study anthropology, to work with people struggling with addiction, and then to train in psychotherapy.

Kelly thinks this empathy in people and their stories is an important trait of a psychotherapist. Along with the capacity to go towards and be with those aspects of our humanity that are heavier and harder to be with.

Therapy is a true exploration of what is beneath our surface, an expedition into unknown regions of our self, so that we know ourselves better, relate to ourselves better, and live in more harmony. During this exploration of self, Kelly uses traditional talking therapy along with creative tools including art, drama, movement, dream work, and sometimes venturing outside and having walking therapy, as an alternative way to work with issues. This varied approach is beneficial as she can adopt a perspective catered to different wants and needs.

There is something inherently healing about being seen and heard. Kelly sees psychotherapy as something you can offer to yourself. You are giving yourself the opportunity to safely explore anything, at your own pace. This is part of self-care, of being kinder to yourself, whatever that means to you. Therapy can be difficult but it can also be enjoyed.

Wherever you are in life and whatever you want to achieve, Kelly offers you confidential space and support to explore these things.
