Aurora Foundation for People Abused in Childhood

Getting Help

To access Aurora's therapy services you will need to have experienced abuse/trauma in childhood and be 18 or over.   You also need to keep a commitment to your weekly therapy, prioritise your recovery and recognise that hard work and courage is necessary to make progress and heal.

Counselling at Aurora is now mostly done remotely using video conferencing such as Zoom but we also offer "in person" sessions at our premises in Kingston depending on availability.

If you feel that Aurora could help you then please contact us and take that difficult but vital first step.  A warm welcome awaits!

Accessing the Aurora Service

The first step in accessing therapy at Aurora is to arrange an initial telephone call with one of our counsellors.  The call helps us to explain about the Aurora service and it also gives you the opportunity to ask any questions.  It would be a brief chat to initially see if we think Aurora can help you.

You can either call us and leave a message on the confidential answer-phone or you can send us a message using the "Contact us" button below. We take all enquiries very seriously as we fully recognise how hard it can be to make that initial step, so we do our best to reply to all client enquiries as soon as we possibly can.

We do have to ask for a contribution towards the cost of therapy and the standard amount is £60 per session so we need to see if this is affordable for you.  We do have a limited number of "reduced contribution places" so if you would like to be considered for one of these you can ask the

counsellor for further information.

Waiting list for all places

Demand for our services means we currently have a waiting list for all our counselling places.  As therapy at Aurora is open-ended and usually long term, I'm afraid we are unable to give an idea how long it might be for a place to become available.

After the Initial Chat

If you and the counsellor both feel you could benefit from coming to Aurora we would add your name to the Aurora waiting list. You will then be contacted again when a vacancy becomes available to see if the place is suitable and if so an "Assessment" appointment will be arranged. This appointment will usually be done remotely using Zoom rather than "in person".

Our Location

The Aurora Therapy Centre is a protected space for clients and is situated in Kingston-Upon-Thames in Surrey.  Kingston has excellent public transport facilities via British Rail links to central London and bus routes.

Information for Other Professionals

Please be aware that we do not take referrals. If you think your service user would benefit from our support, please advise them to contact us directly.

If you're in crisis

Unfortunately, Aurora does not have the facilities to offer a 24 hour or emergency service for acute mental health problems or those in severe crisis. If you feel you are need of this kind of specialist healthcare we suggest you contact your GP, CPN or local Accident & Emergency department.Alternatively, you can contact the Samaritans on 116 123. You can also e-mail them: jo@samaritans.org.
